Economic and Community Development
Our department of Economic and Community Development assists local merchants and property owners in making Port Richmond an economically vibrant community. Current major initiatives include administration of the Empire State Development Corporation Revolving Loan Program. This program provides new and start-up businesses in the Port Richmond area with loans for working capital and fixed assets.
We also provide technical assistance to individual business owners, and partner with the Port Richmond Civic Association and the Port Richmond Board of Trade to maintain and improve life for the residents and merchants. The department of economic and community development provides links for local businesses to outside resources such as government and other development programs.

Our senior services department serves both the needs of the residents of the senior housing we administer, Parkside Senior Housing, and the needs of seniors, the disabled and recipients of SSD & SSI in the wider community.
Through our needs assessment process we provide referrals for services such as HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program), Access-A-Ride, EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage), and Meals on Wheels as well as for assistance with daily living tasks.
Northfield Community LDC’s Senior Services department is the point of contact for seniors applying for WRAP, the Weatherization Referral and Packaging Program, which offers free home energy-related services to low income seniors.
Our Weatherization department can:
- Detect and correct dangerous levels of carbon monoxide
- Upgrade or replace heating and distribution systems
- Insulate roofs and walls
- Seal open by-passes and chasers
- Conserve domestic water use
- Repair or replace non-energy efficient windows and doors
- Install carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
